My name is William Starner, a 34 year-old, American male teacher living in Northern Thailand. Currently I teach at the American Pacific International School in Chiangmai province, located approximately 30 minutes outside the city center. Previously, I taught 4th and 5th grades at the Kyrene Monte Vista Elementary School in Phoenix, Arizona, and 4th grade at the Bowman School in Lexington, Massachusetts. I’ve also taught English in Japan from August of 2002-August 2003, in a small city called Kochi on the island of Shikoku. As well, I tutor students for the SAT college entrance examination.
I hold a Master of Education from Cambridge College (’04) in Massachusetts, and a Bachelor of Science from Shippensburg University (’99) in Pennsylvania. My high school alma mater is Corning-Painted Post East High (’95), located in Corning, NY.
I am an avid runner, having competed at the high school and college levels, and continue to enjoy the sport today. I’m also a fledgling writer, interested in the realistic fiction genre for middle-grade readers. Chawp Jai Chiang Mai loosely means “pleased with or happy about Chiang Mai.” I chose the title not only for its meaning but also for its pleasing alliteration and rhyme.
I am married to Brooke Schedneck, a Fulbright Scholar and Ph.D. candidate from Arizona State University. Brooke is researching for her dissertation in Thailand. See her blog here. We’ve lived in Chiang Mai for just about one year now.
